David Moyes has been rumoured to be in favour of a Manchester United clearout for some time and now it appears that three players may be close to the Old Trafford exit. According to a report by the Daily Mail, Anderson, Nani and Wilfried Zaha will be leaving the club before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
Despite showing much promise during his first season in England, Anderson has failed to live up to the expectations that came with a £17m move from Porto and his ongoing fitness issues have been a problem. The Brazilian hasn’t played for United since the start of December in a home defeat against Newcastle and has looked considerably off the pace on the occasions when he has been involved this season. It is believed that a move to Fiorentina in Italy is on the cards.
Nani and Wilfried Zaha are both expected to leave on loan. Nani has been absent with a hamstring injury for a few weeks and has been unable to secure a first team place, not just this season, but over the last couple of years. The winger’s time at Old Trafford has been plagued with inconsistency since he arrived from Portugal alongside Anderson in 2007 and, while capable of instances of genius on the pitch, he is no longer doing enough to suggest he deserves to be a United player. Sporting Lisbon, his first professional club will be his destination until the end of the season, at least.
Zaha has not had much of a chance to impress, making only a handful of appearances all season, but David Moyes is clearly not impressed with what he has seen from the 21-year-old. It is alleged that the player has not enjoyed working under the Scot’s strict style of management and is hugely frustrated by his lack of opportunities. A loan to Cardiff City for the rest of the season just needs the final green light from Moyes.
In terms of players coming in, a loan deal for versatile Real Madrid full back Fabio Coentrao is ready to be completed within a few days and if players are set to leave in January, he is unlikely to be the only new arrival.
