Last night, while you were sleeping, Beyonce was busy dropping what’s baaaaasically the biggest-deal album of the entire year. At midnight, with no fanfare or marketing of any sort, Bey’s fifth solo LP hit iTunes and 2013 will never be the same. Literally no one saw this coming, except for probably Jay Z and Blue Ivy, but that’s just because they’re featured on the album—along with Frank Ocean, Drake, and both former Destiny’s Children, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.
Forever ago, Beyoncé promised all her faithful fans an album this year—she even performed at the Super Bowl, which usually means new music’s to come. But then? Nothing. And since there’s just a few weeks left before 2014 kicks off, it was looking like we’d have to wait another century until we got our hands on an album from Queen B. Instead, she goes and unveils a record in the most under-the-radar—and, therefore, boldest—way possible.
The entirely unexpected release isn’t the only thing noteworthy about these new tunes; the self-titled “visual album” has 14 songs 17 videos. Here everyone thought Beyoncé was spending all her time frolicking on yachts and dressing up baby Blue and making vegan food fashionable, but nope—lady’s been suuuuper busy in the studio and on set. Just think about it! Most artists release a music video or two a year. Beyoncé filmed, like, twenty times that.
Nice One from Queen B.
